Gwinnett County was formed in 1818 by an act of the Georgia General Assembly. In 1861, the three county representatives voted against secession at the Georgia Constitutional Convention. At the end of the civil war, many small battles took place in Gwinnett County.
Gwinnett County is home to Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville, two branches of Gwinnett Medical Center, Eastside Medical Center, and newspapers in both English and Spanish. Additionally, minor league affiliates of the NHL Boston Bruins and the MLB Atlanta Braves play home games in the area.
